Creating Your Dream Travel List: Beach Ideas

Creating your dream travel list is one of those things that is deeply personal. Only you know best what it is you want to do in this world. We understand this. This post will be more of an overview of beach ideas you might not have thought about. For those that are looking to relax on a beautiful beach and just let the world melt away, your options are endless.

The Maldives are almost always among everyone's top 5 list. If you find that you don't want to go there or its too pricy for you consider these other Indian Ocean options. The Seychelles and Mauritius are good options to look into.

The beaches of southeast Asia leave many people wanting as well. Some of the best in my opinion can be found in Thailand and the Philippines. In Thailand look to Koh Samui and Krabi.

Wanting to go to the south Pacific? Some of these have been on my all time list for years. Everyone knows about Bora Bora. For something a little quieter and cheaper look into Moorea instead. There is a Hilton there with gorgeous over-water bungalows that can had for a comparable steal.

But the star of the Pacific that is not often on the radar is Lord Howe Island in Australia.

Coming around to the Atlantic and Caribbean I will rave always about Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos. The beach is just gorgeous and being so close to the New York area is an easy escape. Another island where time will just slip beyond the horizon while you enjoy its passing is Antigua. Here you can check out

Deciding to Cruise

We would like to use today's post to help you decide if cruising is for you. Cruising is a special type of vacation where you can choose to do as much or as little as you want. A typical day can be anything from sitting and reading to swimming to finding a drink with friends. There are many concerns people have regarding cruising. If you are worried about being seasick there are several things you can do to minimize the chances of this happening. You should look for a cabin near the center of the ship and on a lower deck. This will minimize the movement of the room both front and back and side to side. There are a variety of anti motion medications you can take, both orally and transdermal. We recommend the patch based ones as they are easier to deal with. Other factors regarding seasickness can be given by your travel agent. These include particular sailings based on time of year and passages that will be crossed.
Another common concern is the idea that you will be bored and trapped aboard the ship. This in our opinion couldn't be further from the truth. The ship provides a very wide variety of things to do. The ship will hit ports on most days of many voyages. This gives you the chance to get off the ship and explore the local area of your port visit. On the ship there are pools and sundecks to enjoy the outside fresh air. There are indoor and outdoor bars. Almost always a casino. With a library on board there are many quiet nooks to wrap up with a good book. Each day there will be a daily schedule of events that the ship is putting on. Everything from cooking demonstrations to trivia and bingo events. On most major cruise ships there really is something for everyone.
Cruises offer a great value to your vacation budget. Included in your cruise fare is your accommodations for each night of the cruise vacation.
Also included is all of your basic food. Yes specialty dining options can be had for a small surcharge but this is by no means required to have a good meal whenever you want it. On most ships this includes your room service as well. You are also getting your transportation from your departure port to all the other ports on your cruise included. This allows you to visit many destinations on a single trip. Most cruises have a variety of ports that allow you a shopping day, a beach day, an historic day, etc.

Weekend Getaways: Paris

Yes even Paris can be a weekend getaway from the Northeast. With the up and down airfares these days in the world of air travel, you can sometimes stumble upon a great deal if you're willing to go when they come and also compromise on carrier/program.

We were able to pick up one of these fluctuations in 2011 to explore Paris over a weekend. Yes this is just about 26 hours on the ground without taking additional time off during a standard 9-5 Monday through Friday work week but can be very rewarding none the less.

In 24 hours you can accomplish a lot while not going nuts with costs. There are the wonderful cafes to sit and have a drink and watch the world go by. You can walk new to you neighborhoods and get a sense of regular weekend life. You can even do all the tourist attractions on a trip like this although I do tend to skip museums when in town for such a short time. But when it comes to twenty four hours in Paris I feel nothing tops the food. Paris has so many wonderful restaurants that if you decide you want to eat it, you will be able to find it.
For our weekend in Paris we hit Angelina for one of the finest hot chocolates I've had.
We of course snacked on macaroons from Laduree.
And the highlight of the trip for me and reason I chose Paris for this weekend away, Le Relais de Venise. This is the original L'Entrecote restaurant.

Redesign 2012

Welcome back everyone.

We have just fixed up and redesigned the site once again. The previous pages were giving errors and not rendering properly so we went with a fresh new look.

As you can tell this is still a work in progress and we hope to have everything up properly by the weekend.

Creating Your Dream Travel List

Creating your dream travel list is one of those things that is deeply personal. Only you know best what it is you want to do in this world. We understand this. This post will be more of an overview of ideas you might not have thought about.

Do you seek out adventure, but only have a weekend? Try a weekend escape to Costa Rica.

The beaches of the world are amazing places to relax and just let the world slip by while you enjoy each passing moment.

Does train travel do it for you? You need not leave the North America to get some great train rides. Of course there are others around the world that everyone should do once. Whether its a ride through the Chunnel or the Seikan undersea tunnel to the to be opened Gotthard Base Tunnel for the technological feats to the long rides of the world like the Trans-Siberian/Mongolian trains across China, Mongolia and Russia there is a wide variety of trips available for you.

How about traveling to see the Wonders of the World? This is something many people dream about.

Or are you a list keeper? Do you want to go to all seven continents, 50 states, 100 countries?

How about seeing the best waterfalls of the world? Iguazu, Victoria, Niagara? There are many many more.

What about a spa weekend? These can be some of the most varied and amazing experiences out there. You can try the geothermal Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Most everyone knows about the great spas in Budapest like the Gellert Hotel but what of those in Badan Badan in southwestern Germany? These may be easier for some travelers to get to.

I know this post covers a lot, but hopefully it has given you something to think about and new places you may want try out.

Look for more specific posts coming each week on each category.
